A group of armed bandits attacked the village of Binnari in Taraba state, northeastern Nigeria, killing at least 62 people. The attackers set fire to homes, shops, food supplies, and motorcycles in the village. The attack, which occurred in the early hours of the morning, left the area in chaos. Local authorities confirmed the death toll has risen to 62, with many others injured.
Witnesses reported that the attackers, believed to be members of a local militia, moved through the village in groups, looting and burning properties. The attack targeted civilians, with no indication of military involvement. Emergency services arrived at the scene shortly after the attack, but many victims were found in the rubble of burned-out homes.
This is the third such attack in the region this month. Previous incidents in nearby villages have also resulted in casualties, prompting local officials to call for increased security measures. The Nigerian government has pledged support to the affected communities, but many residents remain fearful. The situation highlights the ongoing instability in the region, where banditry has become a growing concern.
