President Bola Tinubu launched his re-election campaign in Kaduna on Saturday, marking the beginning of his bid for a second term in the January 2027 polls. The event, attended by key political figures including Vice President Kashim Shettima and APC governors, aimed to rally support for Tinubu’s economic policies amid a worsening cost-of-living crisis.

Tinubu, 74, emphasized that painful economic reforms are showing results despite ongoing challenges. He accused political rivals of exacerbating the nation’s problems, claiming they create issues to exploit against his administration. His main opponents include former vice-president Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, both of whom have strong support bases.

Tinubu’s campaign focuses on economic recovery and security, areas central to public concern. His wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and other APC leaders were present at the rally, reinforcing the party’s unity. Vice President Shettima urged northerners to reciprocate Tinubu’s support, framing re-election as a reward for his leadership.

The campaign comes amid rising tensions, with Atiku accusing Tinubu and Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo of encouraging political violence. Tinubu’s re-election bid is expected to be a key political battle, with the economy and security remaining central issues. The January 16 election will test his ability to maintain public support in a deeply divided nation.
