President Bola Tinubu launched his re-election campaign in Kaduna on Saturday, vowing to deliver sustained economic recovery and development. Speaking at the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign rally, Tinubu emphasized his administration's efforts to address national challenges, including hunger and poverty, which he attributed to opposition parties.
Tinubu's campaign flag-off marked the official start of his bid for a second term in the 2027 general election. The event in Kaduna State drew political figures and supporters, highlighting the administration's growing influence. Senior aides, including Abdulaziz Abdulaziz, praised Tinubu's achievements, stating the administration has reached significant milestones.
Support for Tinubu has been bolstered by traditional leaders and religious figures in northern Nigeria. Senator Abdul'aziz Yari assured Tinubu of the backing of power brokers, Emirs, and Imams. Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani also assured Tinubu that northern voters would reward his administration with their votes.
The campaign comes amid criticism from opposition leaders, including former President Mike Akhigbe, who accused Tinubu of failing to address food shortages. However, Tinubu's government has highlighted progress in resolving long-standing disputes, such as the OPL 245 oil contract, as evidence of its effectiveness.
Tinubu's re-election bid follows a year of political activity, including rallies and public statements. His administration continues to focus on economic reforms and infrastructure development, aiming to solidify its position ahead of the 2027 election.
