President Bola Tinubu has launched his re-election campaign in Kaduna, vowing to address Nigeria's economic challenges and deliver prosperity. Speaking at an All Progressives Congress (APC) rally, Tinubu accused opposition parties of creating the country's current state of hunger and poverty, emphasizing his administration's efforts to restore economic stability. His remarks come as his allies, including Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike, continue to highlight his achievements, such as the completion of the Bonny-Bodo Road in Rivers State, as proof of his leadership.
Wike, during a separate engagement with the Bonny Kingdom community, urged local voters to support Tinubu in the 2027 election, citing the road project as a symbol of the administration's ability to complete long-dormant infrastructure initiatives. Meanwhile, Tinubu has also directed the Independent National Electoral Commission to ensure free and fair elections ahead of the Osun governorship poll, which is set for August 15, 2026.
Tinubu's campaign is unfolding amid internal political tensions, as former presidential aide Laolu Akande revealed that some members of his administration resisted the inclusion of former Minister of Works and Housing Babatunde Fashola. These claims underscore the complex dynamics within the ruling party as Tinubu seeks re-election. The upcoming elections will test his ability to maintain support while navigating both external and internal political pressures.
