The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has approved JPMorgan to establish a merchant bank in Nigeria. The approval-in-principle was granted after JPMorgan deposited $38 million.
The new bank, to be named JPMorgan Merchant Bank Nigeria Limited, will operate under the CBN’s regulatory framework. The approval marks a key step in JPMorgan’s expansion strategy in Africa.
This development follows recent efforts by the CBN to attract foreign investment and enhance financial services in the country. The bank’s establishment is expected to boost financial inclusion and support local businesses.
JPMorgan’s entry into Nigeria’s financial sector reflects growing confidence in the country’s economic stability. The CBN has been working to improve the banking environment and attract international players. The approval is part of broader initiatives to modernize the financial sector and promote economic growth.
