President Bola Tinubu accused opposition leaders of creating Nigeria’s hunger and poverty, claiming they exploit these issues against his administration. Speaking on Saturday, Tinubu stated that his opponents talk about hunger and poverty, but it was they who created these problems. “They created the hunger; they created the poverty. We are trying to eradicate it,” he said.
Tinubu’s remarks came amid growing political tensions in Nigeria. His administration has faced criticism over economic challenges, including rising inflation and unemployment. Opposition leaders, particularly from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), have been vocal in their criticism of Tinubu’s policies.
Legal practitioner Liborous Oshoma, a public affairs analyst, publicly criticized Tinubu, arguing that the president was elected to solve problems, not to shift blame. Oshoma’s comments highlight the increasing polarization between Tinubu’s government and its critics.
Tinubu’s campaign for re-election in 2027 has seen support from key political figures, including Northern power brokers, traditional rulers, and Islamic clerics. Senator Abdul’aziz Yari, head of the APC’s presidential campaign council, assured Tinubu of continued backing from influential groups in the North.
Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani also pledged that northern voters would reward Tinubu with their votes in the upcoming election. This support comes as Tinubu seeks to consolidate his political base ahead of the 2027 polls.
The political landscape remains volatile, with Tinubu’s government facing both internal and external pressures. His administration continues to navigate a complex environment marked by economic struggles and political rivalry.
