President Bola Tinubu has reached out to voters in Rivers State ahead of the January 2027 presidential election. During a campaign event in Port Harcourt, Tinubu expressed appreciation for the state’s support during the 2023 election. He also highlighted the reconciliation between Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor Nyesom Wike.

Rivers State Governor Fubara has assured Tinubu of at least three million votes in the upcoming election. This pledge comes as part of appreciation for federal projects and political appointments made under Tinubu’s administration. The state has also pledged support for Tinubu’s campaign through infrastructure development and appointments in key areas.

The Nigeria Democratic Congress has criticized Tinubu’s administration for mismanaging public resources. The party claims excessive borrowing has eroded Nigeria’s wealth and supports Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as alternatives. Meanwhile, the Nigeria Union of Journalists has called on Tinubu to address journalists’ welfare by establishing a national salary framework.

Tinubu’s campaign in Rivers State is part of broader efforts to secure electoral victory in 2027. Grassroots support from local leaders and community figures is seen as crucial for his re-election bid. The state’s political landscape remains competitive, with multiple parties vying for influence.
