The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa has accused Governor Douye Diri of excluding President Bola Tinubu from campaign billboards for the All Progressives Congress (APC). The party claims Diri has shown reluctance to align with Tinubu’s re-election campaign despite switching parties. PDP Publicity Secretary, Mr Ikaebimo Mark, expressed the criticism, highlighting the omission as a sign of disconnection from Tinubu’s political agenda.

The controversy comes amid heightened political activity ahead of the 2027 presidential election. Diri, who defected to APC, is seen by critics as failing to fully integrate into Tinubu’s campaign efforts. The PDP’s stance reflects broader tensions within the APC, where regional leaders are expected to support national candidates. The omission of Tinubu’s image from local campaign materials has sparked discussions about loyalty and political strategy.

This incident follows a series of political moves in the lead-up to the 2027 election. Earlier, President Tinubu sought support from Rivers State, praising Governor Siminalayi Fubara and former governor Nyesom Wike for their reconciliation. Rivers State has pledged three million votes for Tinubu, citing federal projects and appointments. Meanwhile, opposition figures like Makinde have criticized Tinubu and APC for alleged suppression of dissent.

The PDP’s accusation underscores the challenges of maintaining unity within coalition parties. As the election approaches, such disputes could influence voter perceptions and regional support. Tinubu’s campaign continues to focus on consolidating alliances, with regional leaders playing a crucial role in determining electoral outcomes.
