Godswill Akpabio, President of the Senate, has publicly endorsed President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, predicting a sweeping victory for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State. Speaking at the state’s 39th-anniversary celebrations, Akpabio highlighted the political stability achieved in the oil-rich Niger Delta region, framing it as a testament to the APC’s governance. His remarks align with broader APC efforts to consolidate power ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Tinubu recently returned to Abuja after attending APC campaign rallies in Uyo and Port Harcourt, where he emphasized his administration’s focus on economic recovery, education, and healthcare. During the Port Harcourt rally, Tinubu pledged to prioritize citizens’ welfare if re-elected, a message aimed at reinforcing his appeal to voters. Meanwhile, former Anambra State Governor Willie Obi challenged Tinubu over the use of public funds, accusing the APC of mismanagement. Tinubu responded by criticizing Obi’s governance record, highlighting a growing political rivalry.
Political tensions have escalated as opposition leaders warn of attempts to marginalize rival parties. Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde accused the APC of undermining democratic institutions, citing recent court rulings that affected opposition party leadership. These developments underscore the competitive landscape ahead of the 2027 elections, with APC leaders positioning themselves as key players in the political race.
