The Nigerian First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, launched a women’s empowerment initiative in Enugu on Saturday. The event, titled the South-East Women’s Mega Empowerment, included the distribution of empowerment materials.
The initiative aims to support women through financial assistance and training. Tinubu announced business grants of ₦200,000 for 750 participants. The grants are intended to help women start or expand small businesses.
Local governors in the southeastern region pledged their support for President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election. The event also featured speeches from political figures, including Benjamin Kalu, who emphasized the importance of long-term leadership for the Igbo people.
The empowerment program is part of broader efforts to promote economic growth and gender equality. It follows previous government initiatives aimed at improving women’s access to financial resources and business opportunities.
This event highlights the role of women in Nigeria’s economic development. It also underscores the political alliances forming ahead of upcoming elections. The initiative reflects a growing focus on inclusive growth and social empowerment in the country.
