A Learjet crashed in a residential area of Palm Beach County, Florida, on Sunday, killing all nine people on board. The private Bombardier jet, which had taken off from Austin, Texas, was heading to the Bahamas. Investigators suggest the aircraft may have broken apart mid-air before crashing at high speed.
The crash occurred during heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in the area. Video footage captured by witnesses shows the jet nosediving rapidly. The National Transportation Safety Board confirmed the possibility of the plane breaking up before impact.
Among the victims were a 20-year-old co-pilot and a Texas family, including two young children. The family was on a holiday trip to the Bahamas for a birthday celebration. The CEO of a tech company and his family were also on board. The co-pilot had sent a final text message to his boyfriend moments before the crash.
The victims included a mother and father described as devoted parents who touched many lives. Tributes highlighted the loss of two toddlers who perished in the crash. The CEO’s father-in-law issued a statement expressing deep sorrow over the tragedy.
This is the second fatal Learjet crash in Florida this year. Previous incidents have raised concerns about aviation safety in the region. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the crash.
