A 20-year-old Brazilian-American copilot, Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras, has been identified among nine people killed in a private jet crash in Florida. The Learjet 60 crashed and burst into flames in Palm Beach County, killing all onboard. Filgueiras, who was born in the United States to Brazilian parents, had been working as a commercial pilot for nine months. She was on her way to her 21st birthday when the crash occurred.

Filgueiras obtained her private pilot license at 17, while still in high school and before she had a driver’s license. She was traveling with the pilot, Jeff Gregory, and eight other passengers, including businessman Adam Robinson and his family. Robinson, 44, and his wife Helen, along with their two young children, the family nanny, and two close friends, were also among the victims.

The crash occurred on a Sunday, and emergency services responded quickly. Investigators are still determining the cause of the accident. Filgueiras had sent a final message to a friend just 10 minutes before the crash. The incident has raised questions about the safety of private aviation and the training of young pilots.

This is not the first time a young pilot has been involved in a fatal crash. Filgueiras’ story has sparked discussions about the challenges faced by aspiring pilots, particularly those from immigrant communities. Her family, who live in Florida, has expressed their grief and shared her passion for flying. The tragedy serves as a reminder of the risks associated with private air travel and the importance of safety protocols.
