The All Progressives Congress (APC) has publicly challenged Peter Obi, the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, over his claim of winning the 2023 election. The APC Presidential Campaign Council has urged Obi to honour his earlier pledge to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race if liabilities were found against his administration.

The challenge comes amid growing tensions within the NDC, where some members have distanced themselves from Obi. In Benue State, a group under the NDC Integrity Group has dumped Obi in favour of Bola Tinubu, the APC presidential candidate. The group also supported Tinubu’s candidacy over Obi’s.

Tinubu’s campaign has already begun in Kaduna State, with his campaign director, Sen. Abdulaziz Yari, confirming the start of his re-election efforts. Yari, who is also the Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, stated that Tinubu has approved the campaign strategy.

Deji Elumoye, the director-general of the APC PCC, has also commented on the political landscape, stating that neither Atiku nor Obi can claim control over a single state in the north or south. This remark highlights the ongoing competition between political parties ahead of the 2027 election.

The situation reflects the deepening divisions within Nigeria’s political landscape, with key figures and groups aligning themselves with different parties as the next presidential race approaches. The APC’s challenge to Obi underscores the importance of maintaining credibility and fulfilling campaign promises in the lead-up to the election.
