The Nigerian minister of finance, Taiwo Oyedele, stated that the country currently lacks enough crude oil to supply the Dangote refinery. Oyedele, who also serves as the coordinating minister of the economy, made the remarks during a recent economic briefing. The Dangote refinery, one of the largest in Africa, has been a key project for Nigeria’s industrial development.
Nigeria’s crude oil reserves are insufficient to meet the refinery’s operational demands. The government has been working to increase oil production, but output remains below target. Oyedele noted that the country’s current oil supply is not enough to fully operate the Dangote facility. This shortage could impact the refinery’s ability to meet its production goals.
The Dangote refinery, owned by businessman Aliko Dangote, is expected to significantly boost Nigeria’s refining capacity. However, delays in oil supply have raised concerns about the project’s timeline. The government has been exploring ways to improve oil production and distribution. Oyedele emphasized the need for continued efforts to ensure the refinery can operate at full capacity.
