Shell Nigeria Gas Limited (SNG) has emphasized the urgent need to expand gas pipeline infrastructure to reduce costs and improve competitiveness for Nigerian manufacturers. The company pointed out that despite the country’s substantial gas reserves—estimated at 215.19 trillion cubic feet—industrial users spent N1.34 trillion on alternative energy in 2025. This gap, SNG argues, is primarily due to insufficient pipeline networks.
The report indicates that the lack of adequate infrastructure forces industries to rely on more expensive energy sources. SNG is advocating for a strategic expansion of gas pipelines to ensure reliable and affordable supply to manufacturing sectors. This initiative is seen as crucial for enhancing energy security and supporting economic growth.
Nigeria has long struggled with energy shortages, despite its significant natural gas reserves. The government has been working with private companies to improve infrastructure, but progress has been slow. SNG’s call for action highlights the broader challenge of translating resource wealth into economic benefits for local industries. The expansion of gas pipelines is viewed as a key step toward achieving this goal.
