A Nigerian woman arriving from Uganda was arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for carrying 87 cocaine wraps concealed in her private area. The incident occurred at Lagos airport as she prepared to leave Nigeria for the UK and Australia. The woman had traveled to Nigeria with members of her church for a spiritual renewal session.
The NDLEA confirmed the arrest and stated that the drugs were discovered during a routine inspection. The agency emphasized that the seizure was part of its ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking. The woman is currently in police custody, and further legal proceedings are expected.
This is not the first time NDLEA has intercepted drugs from travelers. In previous operations, similar cases have involved individuals attempting to smuggle narcotics across borders. The agency has increased its surveillance at major airports and ports in recent months.
The incident highlights the persistent challenge of drug trafficking in the region, particularly involving cross-border movements. While the NDLEA continues to strengthen its enforcement, the frequency of such arrests suggests that smuggling networks remain active. The case also underscores the role of religious groups in facilitating illicit activities, raising concerns about the need for greater vigilance.
