The Mayon volcano in the Philippines erupted on Friday, sending a dark column of ash thousands of meters into the sky. The state seismology office confirmed the eruption as "moderately explosive," lasting nearly six minutes. The event occurred in the Bicol Region, near the city of Legaspi.
The eruption produced a plume of ash reaching approximately 3,000 meters. Local authorities monitored the situation closely, and no immediate casualties or damage were reported. The volcano, known for its frequent activity, has been one of the most active in the country this year.
Mayon, standing at an elevation of 2,462 meters, is one of the three most active volcanoes in the Philippines. Its nearly perfect conical shape makes it a notable landmark. The eruption follows a pattern of periodic activity, with officials warning residents to remain alert. The event highlights the ongoing geological activity in the region, which is part of the Pacific Ring of Fire.
