Nigeria's economic trajectory is shifting toward growth and shared prosperity, according to government officials. Minister of Information Mohammed Idris stated that the country is moving from economic reforms to a focus on production and prosperity. This declaration came during a World Press Conference in Abuja to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
At the same time, the nation's refining sector is showing signs of recovery. Reports indicate that domestic refining activity increased in August 2026, with crude oil receipts rising 17 percent to 683,000 barrels per day. This growth was driven by the Dangote refinery, which contributed significantly to the country's petrol supply during the month. Meanwhile, petrol imports dropped by 26 percent, signaling a positive shift in energy independence.
Vice President Kashim Shettima also emphasized the role of journalists in Nigeria's democratic development. He acknowledged the contributions of media professionals in shaping the nation's political landscape. These statements highlight a broader narrative of economic and democratic progress, though challenges remain in sustaining this momentum.
