The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has disclosed that flood control projects valued at around P7 billion in Davao City’s first district were awarded to a single contractor between 2018 and 2024. NBI Director Melvin Matibag stated that the discovery was made during an ongoing investigation. The projects, which were part of the administration of former President Rodrigo Duterte, were initially reported to be worth P1.9 billion.
Matibag emphasized that the figure was considered low, suggesting possible discrepancies in the initial assessments. The NBI is currently examining the matter to determine if there were any irregularities or violations of procurement laws. The contractor involved has not yet been identified, and the investigation is ongoing.
