India and Canada held high-level talks to advance the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) negotiations. External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar and Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand discussed key areas including trade, energy, and security. The meeting took place in New Delhi as both nations seek to strengthen economic ties.
The two leaders emphasized the importance of concluding CEPA negotiations by the end of 2026. They highlighted the potential for doubling bilateral trade within a decade. The agreement is expected to cover trade in goods, services, and investment, as well as cooperation in digital economy and environmental sustainability.
CEPA negotiations began in 2022, following a joint declaration by India and Canada to deepen economic cooperation. The agreement aims to reduce trade barriers and enhance collaboration in emerging sectors such as clean energy and technology. Both countries have expressed confidence in the agreement’s potential to enhance mutual economic growth and strategic alignment.
