U.S. Officials have announced the creation of a new task force aimed at disrupting the movement of weapons and sanctioned materials into Iran through land routes. The initiative, called Task Force Iron Gate, complements a naval blockade targeting Iranian ports, according to reports from The Hindu. The move comes amid heightened tensions following recent incidents in the Strait of Hormuz, where three oil tankers caught fire, and a drone attack in Iraq’s Kurdish region.

Iranian state media claimed U.S. Projectiles hit Qeshm Island, while the Revolutionary Guards accused the United States of imposing a naval blockade that forces tankers to use routes authorized by Tehran. The U.S. Response includes a naval presence to ensure the safe passage of vessels through the strategic waterway.

In parallel, Iran has executed three men linked to anti-government protests, according to the judiciary. The men, Hassan Divband, Hamid Kazemi, and Reza Zanganeh, were convicted of carrying out operations on behalf of Israel and the United States during the January 2026 protests. The executions took place in Karaj, outside Tehran, bringing the total number of men executed over the protests to at least 39.

Human rights groups have criticized the trials as unfair, with Iran Human Rights noting the risk of more executions. The situation reflects a broader escalation in hostilities, with both sides accusing each other of escalating tensions through military and economic measures.

The conflict has seen increased military activity, including the recent tanker incidents and the U.S. Task force deployment, marking a new phase in the ongoing geopolitical struggle.
