The UK government has accused Iran of plotting an attack on a military airbase in England, with Prime Minister Andy Burnham stating the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) is "highly likely" involved. Five British men were arrested near the RAF Fairford base in southwest England following a security response.
The UK has joined over two dozen countries in denouncing Iran’s alleged involvement in the plot, according to Canadian officials. Iran’s ambassador has told UK officials that Tehran is willing to assist in the investigation and has reiterated the country’s denial of any involvement.
The RAF Fairford base, previously used by US bombers for strikes on Iran, became the focus of heightened security after the arrests. British authorities have not yet confirmed the full details of the plot, but the incident has raised concerns over foreign influence on domestic security.
This follows recent diplomatic tensions between Iran and Western nations, with Iran’s security chief recently engaging in discussions with India’s intelligence chief on issues of mutual interest. The UK’s accusation marks a significant escalation in the ongoing geopolitical standoff.
