Saudi Arabia has initiated a six-month countdown to implement mandatory land border registration for visitors, as part of its broader digital transformation efforts. The new system, integrated with the Absher Travel platform, requires visitors to register in advance before arriving at land borders. This measure aims to streamline entry procedures and enhance security.

Under the new rules, visitors must complete their registration through the Absher Travel portal, which includes providing personal details and confirming vehicle insurance. The mandatory use of the system will come into effect after the six-month trial period. Officials have emphasized that the initiative is designed to improve transparency and efficiency in managing visitor flows.

The introduction of the system follows Saudi Arabia’s ongoing efforts to modernize its travel and immigration processes. Earlier this year, the country launched a digital visa system to simplify entry for foreign nationals. This latest step aligns with the government’s vision to create a more secure and efficient travel environment. The implementation of the land border registration system is expected to be fully operational by early 2027.
