Saudi Arabia’s international airport has been targeted by a second attack in less than a week, according to the Saudi-led coalition fighting Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen. The latest strike hit a passenger terminal at Riyadh’s airport on Sunday, following a missile attack that killed 12 people just days earlier.
The Saudi health minister, Fahad Aljalajel, visited survivors of the first attack, which occurred on Saturday. The death toll from the Houthi strike has risen to 13, according to Saudi officials. The second attack left several people injured, though no immediate details on casualties were released.
The Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for both attacks, warning airlines to avoid the kingdom and threatening further strikes on Saudi infrastructure. The coalition confirmed the latest strike hit the same complex housing terminals, raising concerns about the vulnerability of civilian areas.
The attacks come amid ongoing tensions between Saudi Arabia and the Houthi rebels, who are backed by Iran. The conflict in Yemen has seen repeated clashes, with both sides accusing each other of targeting civilian infrastructure. The US has expressed consideration of joining Saudi-led strikes against the Houthis, according to former President Donald Trump.
The repeated attacks on Riyadh’s airport highlight the escalating risk of conflict spilling beyond Yemen’s borders, with potential implications for regional stability and international trade routes.
