Egypt has pledged to provide military support to Saudi Arabia in response to escalating attacks by Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthis, according to the presidency. The move comes as the Houthi rebels intensify their strikes against Saudi Arabia, targeting its oil infrastructure. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi requested an urgent parliamentary session to authorise military assistance, one of the Arab world’s largest, to help defend Saudi Arabia if the kingdom requested support.

The Egyptian parliament was asked to approve the military’s involvement in supporting Saudi Arabia’s security and stability. The request was made following a Houthi strike on Saudi Arabia’s Najran region, which highlighted the growing threat to the kingdom’s infrastructure and security. Egypt’s top security body has also agreed to assist Saudi Arabia in defending itself against the attacks.

This follows a pattern of regional tensions, with the Houthi group, backed by Iran, escalating its military campaigns against Saudi Arabia and its allies. Egypt, a key regional power, has previously expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia and has taken steps to bolster its security. The latest developments underscore the deepening regional conflict and the increasing role of Egypt in mediating or supporting Arab states under threat.
