The Philippine National Police (PNP) is investigating the source of a false report alleging a mass shooting at De La Salle University-Dasmariñas in Cavite. The incident was reported on Thursday, but authorities have since confirmed it was a fabrication.

PNP chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. Stated the investigation aims to identify the individual or group responsible for the false report. He emphasized the need to determine whether the report was intentionally fabricated.

This is the second time in recent weeks that the PNP has addressed a false security threat. Similar incidents have led to increased scrutiny of online misinformation and its impact on public safety. The PNP has urged the public to verify information before sharing it on social media platforms.

The fake report caused temporary panic among students and staff at the university. Security measures were heightened, and emergency services were dispatched to the location. No injuries or arrests have been reported as of now.

The PNP has previously warned about the dangers of spreading unverified information, especially in the context of security threats. This incident highlights the ongoing challenge of distinguishing credible reports from deliberate misinformation in the digital age.
