A female Philippine Eagle, named "Magpet," was rescued after being found injured by airgun pellets in Cotabato province. The eagle was discovered weak and in distress by local residents on September 27. The Philippine Eagle Foundation (PEF) confirmed the rescue and stated that the bird was in critical condition. The PEF team intervened to provide medical care and rehabilitation.
The Philippine Eagle, known as the national bird of the Philippines, is critically endangered and protected under national law. The incident highlights ongoing threats to the species, including illegal hunting and habitat destruction. The PEF has been working for years to rehabilitate and release Philippine Eagles back into the wild.
This is the second such rescue in recent months, raising concerns about the increasing number of incidents involving the species. Conservationists warn that without stricter enforcement of wildlife protection laws, the survival of the Philippine Eagle remains at risk. The PEF continues to advocate for stronger legal measures and public awareness to safeguard the bird's future.
