Pakistan’s federal authorities have requested to extend the deployment of 3,000 paramilitary Rangers in Islamabad until October 15. The move comes as the government and opposition prepare to defuse tensions ahead of a planned march by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the party led by jailed former prime minister Imran Khan.
The request was revealed through official documents on Saturday. The extended deployment aims to maintain heightened security in and around the capital. The PTI has been seeking a meeting with its founder, Imran Khan, before agreeing to postpone its long march. Sources indicated that the party is looking for face-saving measures to ensure the talks succeed.
The march, originally scheduled to begin from Khyber, is expected to draw significant public attention. The government has been closely monitoring the situation, with security forces increasing their presence in key areas. The PTI has repeatedly emphasized its demand for a meeting with Imran Khan, which remains a central point of negotiation.
This follows ongoing discussions between the government and the PTI to prevent any escalation of tensions. The security measures are part of broader efforts to ensure public safety during the event. The situation remains under close watch as both sides continue to negotiate the terms of the march.
