Over 530 military, police, and Coast Guard personnel in the Philippines completed a three-day earthquake response exercise in Manila, according to the Armed Forces of the Philippines. The training, part of the second Interagency Exercise called “Pagsasanay Sanlakas,” involved personnel from the AFP, Philippine National Police, and other agencies.

The exercise focused on testing coordination and preparedness for a major earthquake. Participants practiced emergency response procedures, including search and rescue operations, communication protocols, and medical aid. The training ended on Friday, with officials confirming the effectiveness of the drills in enhancing readiness.

The drills come amid growing concerns about seismic activity in the region. The Philippines lies along the Pacific Ring of Fire, making it vulnerable to earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. Previous exercises have highlighted the need for improved interagency cooperation to ensure rapid and efficient disaster response. This training follows similar exercises in recent years, aimed at strengthening national preparedness.

The government has emphasized the importance of regular drills to protect civilian lives and infrastructure. Officials stress that preparedness is key to minimizing casualties and damage in the event of a major disaster. The latest exercise is seen as a step toward achieving more effective emergency management across the country.
