A military drone belonging to Saudi Arabia was reportedly shot down over the Hajjah region by forces aligned with the Houthi movement, according to claims made by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The incident occurred in the western Yemeni province of Hajjah, a region frequently targeted by both sides in the ongoing conflict.
The IRGC stated that one of the tankers involved in the incident was traveling on an unauthorized route, carrying 2 million barrels of crude oil. The group accused the Houthi forces of violating international law by downing the drone, which was part of a military operation in the area. The IRGC did not provide further details on the drone’s mission or the exact circumstances of its downing.
The conflict in Yemen has seen repeated clashes between Houthi rebels and Saudi-led coalition forces, with both sides accusing each other of escalating hostilities. The IRGC has previously warned of increased military activity in the region, citing the need to counter what it describes as terrorist threats. This incident adds to the ongoing tensions, with both sides continuing to accuse each other of violating international norms and escalating the humanitarian crisis.
