The Houthis launched a hypersonic missile toward Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, according to the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen. The missile, identified as the Palestine-2, traveled 16 times the speed of sound and was intercepted and destroyed by coalition forces. The attack marks a significant escalation in the conflict, as the Houthis now possess advanced weaponry previously associated with North Korea.
The Coalition confirmed the interception through a statement by Major General Turki Al-Malki, who described the missile as a terrorist attack. This follows earlier reports that the Houthis have been targeting Saudi airports with drones and cruise missiles. The latest attack highlights the growing sophistication of Houthi military capabilities.
The conflict in Yemen has seen increasing tensions between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia, with both sides exchanging attacks. The Houthis, backed by Iran, have been accused of launching numerous strikes against Saudi territory. The recent hypersonic missile represents a new level of threat, prompting concerns about regional stability. The United States has also expressed condemnation over the escalating violence.
